Violin Lessons – “Beautiful tone, beautiful heart”

Most of us associate violin lessons with screeching instruments and hours of painful practicing, but learning to play the violin can actually be a lot of fun. Now, I’m not saying it doesn’t take hours and months of raw practice to become a good violinist, but I know, from experience, that the road to sounding a little less like a tortured cat, can be filled with excitement.

Research shows that by playing the violin, the violinist strengthens the connections between the left and right sides of the brain. By using the left hand (on the strings), the right side of the brain is developed, and by using the right hand (on the bow), the left side of the brain is stimulated. This means that violinists commonly have a good grasp on logic as well as art. The good news for all you adults who are itching to drop me an email and start the violin tomorrow, is that all the benefits of the violin for children’s brains, are the same for adults! (This means that once you’ve started playing the violin, you’ll not only be able to wow your friends and family with your great musical talents, but you’ll also be able to show off your superior brain power!!)

Kiddies who learn the violin have definite advantages too. They pick up skills like:

  • developing fine motor control
  • developing balance
  • crossing the mid-line
  • extending concentration
  • social skills, in group playing
  • responsibility in caring for the instrument
  • responsibility in practicing
  • routine
  • self esteem
  • pride in an achievement
  • completing tasks
  • confidence
  • appreciation of music, art and history

(the list goes on…)

Adult’s lessons are generally a lot more relaxed than kiddy ones, so you can plot your own course to success, as much as possible. An interesting and wonderful little bit of research shows that the old fashioned ideas about adults having a more difficult time learning things, than children, is all based on their fears of failure, and not on their ability to learn new things. Since Star Gazers believes in fun learning and a relaxed atmosphere, this means that there is no excuse for you not to get in touch with me and come learn the violin!!

At Star Gazers we love that music is a performing art. After all those hours spent practicing alone, in a dark and sound-proofed room, we jump at the opportunity to play for an audience. Adults and children alike are welcome to show off their talents in Star Gazers concerts. All students’ progress is tested during the year, with a stress-free internal exam. Students are also encouraged to take part in external exams, which gives us great insight into their playing, by an outside professional.

If you are interested in violin lessons for yourself, your child or a friend or family member, please drop me an email and give me your details. I would love to be in touch with you and start the journey towards a“beautiful tone, beautiful heart” for you!
